Well checks are an integral part of your child’s healthcare. These visits provide the opportunity to assess your child’s growth, development, and general health. Contrary to acute visits when your child is ill, not very playful and typically not as cooperative, wellness visits allow your healthcare provider to assess the child’s developmental and social skills when they are feeling good. That is why an appointment for an ear infection is not a replacement for a well visit.

The following is the well check schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and our office:

3-5 days, 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 24 months, 30 months. Starting at 3 years, well visits are scheduled annually until age 18 years.

Important Billing Information for Annual Wellness Visit Appointments:

Many insurance companies have changed the level of benefit for Annual Wellness Visits or "Check-Ups."

An Annual Wellness visit includes:

  • An opportunity to review your child's medical history and look for potential health risk

  • Assess overall health and wellbeing

  • Update Vaccines

  • Order and update preventing screening services such as developmental screens (ASQ, MCHAT), hearing/vision screenings, and blood tests

Wellness visits do not include management of acute (new) or chronic (ongoing) illnesses.

If time permits, we are happy to extend your wellness visit to address any new or ongoing problems that your child may be experiencing.  However, please note that this may result in your insurance plan determining that the visit is subject to additional charges, such as copayment, deductible, and/or co-insurance.  You may elect to make a separate appointment to address these concerns as well.  We are happy to answer any questions.  If you have questions regarding this notice, or have other billing concerns, please ask to speak with our Billing Specialist.
